What is DVB-t?
DVB-T is the shortcut for Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial
and stands for the new digital television with reception
via the used house- or common indoor antenna.
Why is DVB-T useful at all?
The hitherto analogue transmission technology has to be
adapted, because of European instructions, within the
next years.
What is the advantage of DVB-T compared to the hitherto
analogue transmission?
DVB-T allows the transmission of more TV-programs on an
up to date analogue TV-channel in best quality. The reception
is less critical; rustling- or silhouettes belonging to
the past.
Which advantages offers DVB-T?
- Good picture- and sound qualitiy
- Reception of further TV-programs
- Reception of additional data like, information about
the current transmission, amplified teletext with pictures.
- Using normal roof- or indoor antenna is steady state;
portable or mobile reception possible
What is necessary for the reception with DVB-T?
DVB-T can be received with a common TV-apparat and with
a normal antenna. Rebuildings at the antenna installation,
or even a „special“ antenna are not necessary.
The only thing that is required, is a so called Set-Top-Box,
an apparat, which will be installed between the antenna
and the TV-apparat.

The programs of RAS will be transmitted open and uncoded.
A decoder-card is not necessary. Via special computer cards
the digital TV-programs can be received and recorded also
on the PC.
How much costs a Set-Top-Box?
The Set-Top-Boxes differ from each other remarkable. Beside
of comfortable Multimedia-Boxes are also moderate apparats
from 70 Euro available. Your specialist dealer will be

Where can DVB-T received at South Tyrol?
The Broadcasting Company South Tyrol RAS operates the
digitalisation of the four country-wide TV-networks gradually.

Within a last construction phase
the two analogue TV-chains of ORF will be adapted. Only
then each participant has to own a digital Set-Top-Box
for receiving the RAS-programs.
Which TV-programs can be received via DVB-T today?
Additionally to the digital programs
of RAS, also programs of RAI, Mediasetz, VB33 and other
provider can be received already now.
In which coherence stands the deactivation of the analogue
terrestrial diffusion to DVB-T?
So that DVB-T can be activated, frequencies have to be
released. This happens with the deactivation of the analogue
TV-channels.
Why does it need a terrestrial TV-supply?
DVB-T offers a, of the satellite, independent supplementary
for the stationary, portable and mobile reception. Moreover
also local programs – in contradiction to satellite
and cable – can be received via simple antennas.
