PRETIO – Research Project of the European Union

The starting shot for the research project of the EU, PRETIO, was made. On the 7th March the different project partners signed the accordant contract at Brussels. The Theme of PRETIO is the launch of mobile data services at the radio system of the future ,Digital Radio'. The broadcasting company of South Tyrol RAS is, as common carrier, partner of the project and will diffuse further data services via Digital Radio.

Within the scope of the 18-month duration of the project new mobile data applications will be adopted and tested. Besides especially selected testing persons will receive a Digital Radio-Set, which will be incorporated in their car. This Digital Radio-Set consists of a radio console in DAB-Standard and a connected data display (PDA). Tested shall be service-applications like constantly actual traffic information, weather information and traffic jam prognosis.
The PRETIO-Project is organised cross national and consists in three projects in Germany and Italy. Co-ordinator is ERTICO, a new europe-wide partnership for advancement of the applications of intelligent transport systems and services. The 15 project partners of PRETIO are composed of broadcasting, telematics, traffic management, common carriers as well as of the industry of terminal equipment: Blaupunkt, Bosch, Bayerische Medien Technik (BMT), DRN, DTAG/T-Systems, ifak, Institution of broadcasting technology, Mizar Mediaservices, move, MSA, Panasonic, ptv, RAS, and Transver Verkehrsforschung. Beyond further renowned companies take a holding with a consulting group in PRETIO: TDF France, Cofiroute, Volkswagen, BMW, CLEPA, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, ADAC, ORF and SRG.

Enclosed you can find a picture of the consoles, which were used at the test-experiment (car radio and data display): The data services which are received via car radio, like traffic notices, title of the actual song or weather information, can be shown with the connected data display (PDA).
